You all must have heard of the show “The Office” which was a huge success. The show gained huge success for nearly 7 years before it came to an end, but fans of the show especially John Krasinski fans still look for some unanswered questions and behind the show secrets to satisfy their excitement.
Though many fans of John Krasinski (Jim Halpert) knew that he wore a wig during the shoot of this utmost hit show, to their surprise arrived one more thing, that the wig he wore was designed by himself with the help of an onset hairstylist. This increased the curiosity of his fans to another level, and now they wanted to know why he did all this by himself. In this post, we will see what the obvious reasons behind doing so were.
The actual reason
At that particular time, in 2008 John Krasinski was also doing an important role in the film ‘Leatherheads’. The character in the film didn’t demand the shaggy hair he had in the show “The Office”. This meant that he had to chop his hair and wear a wig to support his character “Scranton Salesman” in the film.
It may look like that chopping off hair to a normal hairstyle is not a big deal, but it was actually a controversial matter as stated in Andy Green’s book “The Office: The Untold Story Of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s” reported by Collider at that time.
According to the hairstylist Kim Ferry, both continuity-wise and contractually-wise, actors are not allowed to do whatever they want with hair without the producer’s approval. Cutting off his hair very short would mean chopping off his wings on the side and his long hair. So John Krasinski went to him and said, ‘Could we opt for a wig?’ He went to talk to them and said, ‘I really want to do this project.’ And they were like, ‘I think it would be obvious that it requires a wig.’
But to his surprise, showrunner Greg Daniels was just against the idea of wearing a wig, so John Krasinski had to keep this a secret. To this, Ferry added that “hiring a wig maker was not inexpensive. We did the fitting in the trailer, and it looked just like him.” According to him, Daniels could not realize it, and he was rather fooled. He did not get mad at anything as he didn’t smell anything wrong.
But later a day, Daniels said I would find out if it is a wig. You cannot fake that sort of thing. As per Ferry, while Daniels is looking at him with the wig on, John was like, ‘Really? I do not think you would,’ and he takes it off right in front of him.”
