Dark circles are a common problem in today’s fast pacing world. It is common in men and women and grows more when you grow older. At a certain age, they get impossible to get rid of.

Causes of dark circles and who does it affect

Even though they can affect anyone, dark circles are mostly found in people who are elderly, have a genetic predisposition or from the non-white ethnic group. Several factors contribute to dark circles. These are:

Fatigue

Extreme fatigue, oversleeping, or staying up a few hours past your regular bedtime leads to dark circles to form under your eyes. Sleep deprivation can also result in causing fluid to build underneath, causing them to appear fluffy.

Age

Natural aging is one of the most common things during dark circles beneath your eyes. Getting older makes your skin thinner, causing you to lose fat and collagen; this makes blood vessels beneath your skin visible.

Eyestrain

Staring at a computer or television screen can cause significant strain on your eyes. This strain may cause blood vessels around your eyes to enlarge.

Allergies

Eye dryness or allergic reactions can trigger dark circles. An allergic reaction causes your body to release histamines as a response to harmful bacteria.

Dehydration

A common reason for the occurrence of dark circles is dehydration. It happens your body is not receiving a proper amount of water, and the skin beneath your eyes begins to look dull eyes look sunken.

Sun overexposure

Overexposure to the sun produces excess melanin from your body, and too much sun, particularly the eyes, might cause pigmentation in the surrounding skin to darken.

Genetics

Genetics can also play a part in developing dark circles under your eyes. It can be seen through childhood and can worsen as you age or maybe disappear.

So getting rid of dark circles becomes the most important thing to do. We have listed out the steps that you can work with at home and can help you lighten those under-eye bags:

  • Step 1

Make sure to wash your face and remove any makeup before going to bed. If you fail to remove eye makeup and especially before the bed sufficiently, there is a possibility it may lead you to under-eye bags. Use an oil-based eye makeup remover and cotton ball to clean eyes.

  • Step 2

You need to place ice cubes in two cups of water, steep tea bags in cool water for two to three minutes. Jerk out excess water and place the tea bags under your eyes for about 10-15 minutes. Teabag mixed with cold and caffeine will help increase the blood flow and lessen puffiness.

  • Step 3

After you are done with tea bags, rinse your under-eye with lukewarm water and cut two quarter-inch slices of cucumber. Place them on your eyes closed for five to six minutes. Putting cucumber will refresh your eyes and add that little moisture it needed. You can see a bit of reduced swelling under the eyes.

Now, rinse your eyes and pat them dry with a clean towel. Apply an eye cream that contains retinol and caffeine under and around the eye area. Use pads of your index and middle fingers to pat it in lightly.

  • Step 5

At last, get set with applying a dab of yellow-hued concealer under eye with your fingertip. Blend and pat it in. You can sweep a layer of loose powder over it so you can set the concealer. The yellow-based concealer helps to deflect dark color and brighten the eye area.

The outlook

Dark circles are temporary for many people and often indicate a lack of sleep or aging. There are several medical treatments and home remedies to improve the appearance of your eyes, but dark circles are not likely to cause any harm. However, swelling or discoloration may worsen over time, but it can be cured with proper treatment.
