Have you ever thought about how the world’s most expensive sushi would look or taste like? Might it be something with edible gold in it? Well yes! That’s true. Chef Angelito Araneta Jr. is not just an average sushi chef; he doesn’t know what average sushi is like! While regular sushi could be quite expensive, chef Angelito likes to take it a bit high level. This renowned chef of Filipino often goes by the nickname “Karat Chef.” He got this name because he likes to incorporate diamonds and gold into his creations. It happened recently when one of his concoctions got officially listed as one of the world’s most expensive sushi. It is because of the addition of edible pearls, diamonds, and gold.
About the sushi
As per the Guinness World Records, Angelito Araneta Jr’s five-piece particular nigiri roll is officially the most expensive sushi in the world. The roll starts with pink salmon, a premium variety from Norway, and foie grass. Then from the next step, it goes pretty crazy as instead of wrapping the roll in seaweed, Araneta uses 24-karat edible gold leaf. It doesn’t stop here as Araneta is not just a normal sushi chef. He added three Palawan pearls to each piece as an addition to 20-carats of African diamonds. Adding up all these ingredients, you’ve then got one of the world’s most expensive sushi.
Some other dishes to compare
Being one of the novelty creations, this was indeed a doubtful thing to wonder whether diamonds and pearls are edible. This sushi being Karat chef’s latest creation is quite a thing. Given the price, this sushi costs nearly $2,000, so you might think it ranks up with the most expensive fish around the world. Well the fact not being true, this sushi has, however, is less pricey than the following things:
- The bluefish tuna, which is one of the wildly caught fish, sells for around hundreds of thousands of dollars. Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo is one of the best sources of tuna. It has been listed as one of the most expensive tuna ever sold. It cost around $173,600 for the 444lb fish.
- Another sea creature, lobster sold at Norma’s in NYC was one of the most expensive lobster ever. There are two versions of Norma’s frittata for high-rollers: the $1,000 frittata topped with 10 ounces of caviar or a $100 frittata with only one ounce of caviar on it. According to Guinness Book of Records, the latter is officially the most expensive one. It involves one pound of lobster covered in egg on fried potatoes.
- According to some reports, Le Parker Meridian, a restaurant in New York, sells about 10-12 of the $1,000 zillion dollar of lobster frittatas around the year. It covers almost $100 per month for the dish.
So as per the idea, we can conclude that the next time when you think of ordering a fish, you can also look for these dishes and see till where you can extend your taste buds. It also lets you know how far you are willing to go for the ultimate ocean animal.
